Mapping the Skies – Doreen Barnaville

For a few days in 2010 when an Icelandic volcano was rumbling, and flights were cancelled, the skies were an unadulterated blue. I was inspired by the ensuing patterns created as journeys were once more mapped in the sky when flights resumed.

On a warm clear day in October the indigo dye vat was kind . . . . . . .  I could see trails in the sky as I worked and thought of the thousands of travellers crossing continents . . . . . . . including my son who was at that very moment on a flight to the other side of the world.
